Studievereniging Sinologie (SVS) has entered a collaboration with Xiamen Airlines’ Amsterdam Office, granting SVS members unique benefits. Here, you can find all the details about these benefits and how you, as a member, can take advantage of them.
You can benefit from the following action: If you book a flight with Xiamen Airlines departing from Schiphol, you can choose from one of the two options below:
- OPTION 1: 1 extra piece of luggage, with a maximum weight of 23 kg for economy class and 32 kg for business class. The luggage upgrade applies to the entire flight route booked with Xiamen Airlines, provided it is part of the original ticket.
- OPTION 2: Free priority boarding at Schiphol for flights from Amsterdam to Xiamen. This only applies to the AMS-XMN flight (Amsterdam to Xiamen). This upgrade is limited to 15 members per calendar year.
Additionally, the following benefits apply (you do not need to choose):
- SVS members will receive the best possible rate for group bookings or group tours.
- When booking a small group of 3 to 9 passengers or larger groups from 10 people onward with Xiamen Airlines, the Xiamen Airlines team will do their best to ensure that all passengers are seated together or nearby. This also applies to non-SVS members traveling with the group. At least one passenger in the small group must be an SVS member.
- SVS members will receive free travel advice regarding flight planning and check-in assistance.
How can I use these benefits?
- SVS members must provide proof of their SVS membership to Xiamen Airlines by digitally obtaining a special document, which is exclusively available through SVS.
- To verify your SVS membership, you need proof of enrollment in the BA Chinastudies program at Leiden University. To obtain this personal document, send one of the following documents to bestuur@svsleiden.nl:
- A photo of your student ID card (NOT the LU card).
- A statement of enrollment in the Bachelor’s program of Chinastudies at Leiden University.
- This document must include at least your name, date, academic year, and program.
How do I request a flight with Xiamen Airlines?
Whether it is an individual or group booking enquiry, all flight-requesting members must:
- Book the ticket(s) with Xiamen Airlines Amsterdam Office through ams@xiamenair.com.
- Mention departure and arrival destinations
- Travel dates
- Attach the SVS membership proof document, which can be requested via bestuur@svsleiden.nl.
- Attach a copy of your passport of all persons travelling.
- Clearly state whether you want to use OPTION 1 or OPTION 2.
What are the conditions?
- SVS members must submit their benefit request and/or flight request at least 3 working days before the flight date to be eligible for the benefits.
- All tickets must be purchased directly from the Xiamen Airlines Office Amsterdam via ams@xiamenair.com.
- Tickets purchased through any other source, including travel agencies or the Xiamen Airlines official website, will not be eligible for these benefits.
- SVS members who wish to travel in a medium-sized or large group of 10 people or more must contact Xiamen Airlines at least one month in advance to ensure that there are enough seats available for all passengers.
- Xiamen Airlines cannot guarantee sufficient seats for large groups but will make every effort to accommodate urgent booking inquiries.
Reminder!
Being a member of SVS means:
- Being enrolled in the BA Chinese Studies at Leiden University.
- Having paid the membership fee of €20 for the current academic year 2024-2025 or the membership fee of €60 before the academic year 2022-2023.
Are you no longer an SVS member? Xiamen Airlines will also do their best for SVS alumni, but they cannot guarantee the benefits. You can still request the personal SVS membership document, which will indicate that you are an alumnus.
