Welcome to Studievereniging Sinologie Leiden

The Studie Vereniging Sinologie (SVS) represents the interests of students studying China Studies at Leiden University. The association has been active since 1978 and considers it its mission to support its members in their studies, strengthen the sense of community within the program, and represent the students externally.

The Bachelor China Studies and the Master Chinese Studies at Leiden University are comprehensive programs that introduce students to all aspects of China. Students learn to speak the language, but also study its history, economy, philosophy, culture, and much more. They are taught by some of the best instructors in the field, complemented by professors from China itself. All students are required to spend some time in China or Taiwan.

The SVS supports students in their studies through activities such as lectures, our language partner program, information sessions on study and career choices, and the annual Careerdays. In this way, we help students make the right academic choices and discover where their interests lie. In addition, we organize parties, social gatherings, a gala, and a trip abroad, which foster a tight-knit community among students and ensure everyone has a fantastic student experience.
