The Committee of Education helps SVS members with their academic careers. The committee collaborates with the program and students to keep their knowledge up to date and to organize events when needed. Additionally, the committee aims to recruit members from each year group in order to maintain an overview of the progress and activities of each cohort. The committee organizes three different activities within China Studies, which we abbreviate as VBV:
Information sessions. We give information sessions on elective courses, theses, studying abroad, etc. This way, the committee ensures that members are well-informed about their studies and have clarity about the future of their education.
Tutoring. If you have difficulties with a course during the first or second year of your Bachelor programme and are looking for help, you can turn to this committee. The committee seeks older students who are willing to tutor and keeps a database of these students. When a student needs help, the committee can easily connect them with an older student willing to provide tutoring.
Questions. If there are any questions or uncertainties regarding the study, upcoming events, or choices—such as selecting electives or deciding whether to study abroad—the committee works to answer these questions. The Committee of Education strives to ensure that your academic journey at China Studies goes as smoothly as possible. As a committee member, you keep an eye on your year group; where are people encountering difficulties, and what important events are coming up? You meet almost every week with the committee and then work to prepare students for these events. You gather information and consult with teachers and older students to see if they are willing to help with the information sessions. Additionally, you are the point of contact for your year group for the education committee.
Become a committee member?
As a committee member, you will learn a lot about organizing events, the structure of the study program, and you will meet many people within the program. It’s a great experience, both enjoyable and educational! If this committee interests you, send a short motivation with your name, email address, and phone number to bestuur@svsleiden.nl.
